ABOUT US
Hi, and welcome to finance-abcs.com. My name is Brian. For now, it’s just me, but who knows what the future will bring.
A bit about me….I’m a retired finance and technology professional. Over the course of my career, I’ve had the opportunity to work in 401(k) record-keeping, defined benefit plan investment management, mutual fund portfolio management, trading and compliance, and personal investment management with a focus on planning and guidance.
I was an English major in college, my parents were both teachers and I always saw myself becoming a teacher. While I never landed there as a career, I spent some time teaching personal finance topics through various volunteer opportunities.
What became clear to me is that there is a huge gap between the skills and knowledge each and every one of us needs to manage our financial lives, and the formal training that we’ve received.
As I mentioned, I’m retired. I’m not getting paid to promote, I don’t sell anything, and if I recommend a product, it is because I use it and feel strongly that it is worthwhile. I do not give investment advice. I won’t give you winning stock picks or help you beat the market. I will try and explain how things work so that you can make informed decisions to improve your financial life.
We’ll focus on 4 key areas:
1. Budget & Saving – Build a budget and develop strategies to help put money aside on a regular basis to create an emergency fund, shore up your budget and allow you to invest for your future.
2. Investing – we’ll discuss the basics of financial markets, stocks, bonds, mutual funds and ETFs. What are they, how they work, and how to use them to your advantage.
3. Protecting Your Wealth – You’ve worked hard to build wealth. Learn how to protect it from scammers and others who want to get their hands on it.
4. Financial Products – bank accounts, credit cards, 401k, IRA, Loans – what are they and how do they work? How can you take advantage of the many benefits and avoid the traps and pitfalls?
Finally, I’m hoping to build a community and start a conversation. Hopefully you’ll find these posts helpful and I hope you will participate by posting your own thoughts, comments and questions.
