Be skeptical of everything. This has been a common theme with me lately related to emails, mail, texts and anything we receive unsolicited.
I got a text saying I owe the Mass Turnpike tolls. I don’t.
I got mail saying I need to call immediately about my car warranty. It’s not about my warranty, it’s trying to fool me into buying (a very poor one) from a no-name company in Florida. Read more here.
You get the idea. Whether they are outright crooks or aggressive marketers, their tactics are meant to fool us into making poor choices.
Today’s Experience
I love coffee.
I have a Breville Grind Control coffee maker which makes great coffee, but my wife gets up later than I do, so we’ve been using our Cuisinart single-serve coffee maker which grinds or uses k-cups.
I also have a Breville espresso maker for my afternoon cappuccino, but that’s for another story…
Dark Roast
I like dark roast and my wife and I both like Starbucks. It’s strong. Some find it bitter. We often cut it with 20% of something else. I particularly like mixing my Starbucks beans with Shelburne Falls Toasted Coconut Cream.
But Shelburne Falls is expensive, so we’ve started to pick up various “mixers” at TJ Maxx. Currently we’re working on a chocolate dark roast that’s pretty nice.
Reel It Back In
But back to the problem…in order for both of us to have a hot cup of fresh coffee in the morning, we’re using the single serve more often.
On a recent trip to Florida, the hotel provided Gevalia Columbia Coffee. It was outstanding. And better yet, after we came home, we found it on Amazon so we could enjoy a slice of the Florida keys experience while it was 20 degrees and snowing.
While browsing for coffee, I came across a dark roast variety k-cup pack that looked intriguing. I decided to try it. 40 cups for $19. Not bad. Amazon tells me it’s 47 cents a cup so I don’t have to do math.
Each one has been outstanding.
What Else Is Out There?
This got me thinking about what other delicious coffees may be out there. I started hunting.
I found a site called Roast Love. They recommended Peet’s Coffee Dark Roast.
I searched on Amazon. Here it is.
Not sure I’m ready to go all-in and spend $40, so let’s check the reviews.
Kudos to Jeremy. He has the top review – 5 stars – he loves the coffee. He rarely leaves reviews, but this product really impressed him.
He says: What stands out is how easy it is to use.
Boy, do I hate difficult coffees. Sometimes they don’t even come with instructions. And don’t get me started about the ones from China…
He believes that Durability is a major plus. It feels sturdy and well constructed.

Wrap-Up
I guess I had 3 points to make this morning.
Most importantly, be skeptical. I spent another day helping fraud victims yesterday. People are getting emails calls and texts that are personalized. They offer something we want and there is an urgency to act.
Some are sweepstakes scams, others are offers for loans, but they hit us at a weak moment, and next thing we know, our money is gone. Be skeptical.
Coffee is important. Not sure how this makes the top 3 for today, but to me it is important. Coffee to me is social – let’s grab a coffee. At work, it was a way to catch up with someone and build a connection. Now, Rich and I have coffee each Saturday and my wife and I have a nice coffee outside under our tree when the weather is nice.
We all have our coffee – that something that’s become important to us and helps us build a connection or is just an enjoyable spot in our day. It’s important to identify these and make the most of them.
And finally, don’t trust everything you read. This builds on the “be skeptical” point 1. With AI, and bots and the growing popularity in misleading the general public, read everything – including advertisements, offers, and endorsements/reviews carefully.
Jeremy loves this coffee. He even calls out the name in the review title. Durability is a major plus for him.
If anyone knows Jeremy, I’d like to talk with him about his coffee consumption and his evaluation process. Maybe I can learn something to enhance my morning coffee experience.
