I had 2 co-workers on a project. Wendy was a perfectionist. She was great at her job and she always wanted things done the best way possible. I always wanted Wendy on my team.
One day while working on a solution, Andy helped us get to resolution by saying that “in most things, pretty good is good enough.”
While we may not want to hear our surgeon utter this phrase, in most cases, it’s true.
Andy was good at keeping us moving forward. He and Wendy always made a great team.
Not in Politics
Everything is political today. Every event, every story…someone is using it for political gain. This tragedy only happened because of a decision made by that party.
It’s disheartening.
And every event is either great, or a catastrophe. There’s no in between.
Let’s Talk About Porn
I knew that would get your attention.
In today’s issue of Tangle News, we see

Here’s a summary:

As expected, media outlets on the right are pleased. Outlets on the left are up in arms about the impact to free speech.
The media positions are exactly what we’d expect. Here’s a sample from the right

Glad to hear that they’re right.
A sample from the left

and I can’t help but include

So there’s plenty of anger and righteous indignation to go around. Read the whole post. It’s worth it.
My Favorite Take
The reason I get the daily edition of Tangle in my inbox is because I think they’re fairly balanced on their reporting and their analysis of any given story. I like to read a non-partisan take on key events.
I love today’s comment:

My Take on My Take
This reminded me of Andy.
It’s a similar reaction. There’s good and bad, but overall I think it does more good than bad.
Pretty good is good enough.
It seems like the media are lining up to criticize anything that doesn’t 100% align with their politics. For every story, either the left are happy and the right are furious or it’s the other way around.
So for me, it’s refreshing to see a writer who sees the good and bad and is willing to admit that.
The BBB
Yup, the bill. I still haven’t gotten around to reading every page, but I’ve seen some of what’s in it.
Some I’m not too sure about, some I don’t like, and some I like.
I like that the tax cuts from the first term have been made permanent. That big standard deduction is nice and it simplifies my taxes. Less time spent on my 1040 is a win.
I’m a little concerned about the cuts to medicaid. Firstly because it was a campaign promise not to make cuts, but also because there are a lot of less fortunate people who rely on medicaid.
I’m not too sure about the elimination of the solar and wind subsidies. I spent about $50,000 putting solar panels on my roof and adding battery back-up. My electric bill is about zero which means I generate as much power as I use over the course of the year. Imagine if everyone did?
I wouldn’t have done this had I not gotten a 30% tax deduction.
That tax deduction goes away in late 2026. I know how crippling our national debt is and that we need to tighten our belts. But it seems like if we truly want to be an energy independent nation, solar is good for us.
So to me BBB, not great, some good, some not sure.
Wrap Up
There’s good and bad to everything and many of us are somewhere in the center politically, so it’s nice for me to see a media outlet that is wiling to recognize the good and the bad.
In most cases, pretty good is good enough.
Is the porn ruling or the BBB perfect? No.
Could either have been better? That’s where it gets tricky. Better for whom?
Different people want different things.
Sometimes pretty good is good enough.
Thanks Andy.
