Another Lame Effort to Scam Me

Yesterday I got the following text.

As a kid, I loved the Highlights magazine. the only place I ever read it was the dentist’s office, I think the magazine was only sold to dentists. You couldn’t get one on your own.

My favorite part was the picture where you had to find the missing hairbrush, fish, frying pan… Loved this. Distracted me from the sound of the drill.

Today we’re going to play “find everything wrong with this text.”

What’s Wrong?

1. Wouldn’t the RMV send a delinquent notice just to me? Why are there 14 others on the same text? Public shaming?
2. I don’t have a traffic ticket
3. Do a quick search on this regulation. It is not one. But lots of info about scams – see below.
4. If I don’t pay by Aug 14, they will suspend my registration on Aug 14. This is definitely not from the RMV. They don’t move that quickly.
5. And you told me enforcement begins Aug 15. Seems like you’re jumping the gun starting Aug 14.
6. Service fee at toll booths?? – that makes no sense.

Wrap Up

I’m sure some people get caught. Maybe they just got a ticket. Maybe this caught them at a weak moment. It is sad that this is a profitable business, but this one made me laugh because it is a pretty lazy attempt.
